Bored with rolling cheese down hills in Cheddar? Or Bog snorkelling in Wales? What about running 1km with a sack of coal on your back? Every year more and more people sign up to run the Kelty Coal Race and so far every single competitor has completed it. Men carry 50kg and women 25kg, there is even a children’s race (10kg!). With roots in the mining heritage of Kelty where miners used to race each other home carrying ‘rakers’ or ‘clugs’ in their bags, this race is now home to the Scottish Coal Carrying Championships. Come along and take part, come as a team! Entry is free.
2013 winners were Caroline Lech (04:51) and Graeme Crane (04:18)
NEXT RACE 28 JUN 2014
The next date for the Coal Race is Saturday 28th June 2014. Entries open on 1st April 2014. Entries close at midnight on 21st June 2014. Okeydokey! Get training!
In the run up to the race we will be providing a FREE bootcamp to make sure you’re not the first one who has to drop out half way through the race.
